September 26- 29 Weekly Learning Journey

Hola hola! Below is our weekly learning journey. 

Spanish:
-We worked on our "Librito de Vocales" 
ASK ME: How do you play the game Veo Veo? 

Math: 
-Practiced counting from 0-20
-Represented the number of the day in different ways 
-We started working with patterns 



English: 
-Learned about the letters K, G and sight words: the, and, of, a, to, in
-Practiced printing the letters on our sky line, bird line, grass line, and dirt lines
-We completed a writing prompt and practiced our inventive spelling. 
    In the fall I see ... 

Science:
-Continued working with the primary and secondary colors

Social studies:
-We discussed why we wear orange shirts on Orange Shirt Day and Residential Schools

-Students went home with a QR code for their school pictures today. The pictures will be available for viewing in 5 business days.

Parent updates

Dalhousie students and families will be participating in the annual Terry Fox run. The run will be held at the school on September 26 at 1:45 PM. Donations can be made online to the Terry Fox Foundation under Dalhousie School. Students are also encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry on the day of the run. 

School photos will take place on September 27 for the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group, Grades 1, 3 and 5. On September 28, the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten group as well as Grades 2 and 4 will have their pictures taken. Please note that it will be the individual as well as the class photos.  Retakes will take place on October 17 & 18, 2022.

On Thursday, September 29, Dalhousie will recognize the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation by wearing orange shirts.    Students will also be engaging in learning around Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being.    There is no school on Friday, September 30.

Grade 1, 2, and 3 students have the opportunity to go swimming at Churchill Pool on October 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the “Swim to Survive” program. These forms have been sent home with your child. Please fill out the Acknowledgment of Risk form & the Swimming Ability form , returning them to your child’s classroom teacher by no later than September 29, 2022. Both of these forms are required in order for your child to participate in swimming program. Thank you to our Dalhousie Parent Society who generously funded a large portion of the bussing, thereby reducing the individual cost to families.  We will require 6 additional volunteers and 1 male volunteer for each time slot for this field trip to be a success. Please see the Sign Up Genius to sign up for a volunteer slot. Only approved CBE volunteers will be permitted to attend this trip.   As we currently have a shortage of cleared volunteers in the lower grades, parents who are cleared from Kindergarten, Grades 4 & 5 are welcome to sign up.

Our Apple Fundraiser is underway! Place your orders with the forms sent home by September 28. Cheques or e-transfers are accepted! 

Our Fall Harvest Fundraiser allows you to get some fresh produce.  Please visit https://store.indeygo.com/fundraisers/dalhousie-school-fall-harvest-fundraiser/. Donations can also be made to the Foodbank! What a great opportunity to double up on helping out! 

The next fun lunches are Fat Burger and Mucho Burrito. Get your orders in by Friday, September 23 at midnight on healthyhunger.ca  All restaurants are up until the end of December so feel free to order for any of the weeks.

If your child is going to be absent and you have ordered them a lunch, please email dalhousieschoolparentsociety@gmail.com before 11am the morning of fun lunch and let us know if you would

  1. like it sent home with a sibling
  2. You would like to pick it up
  3. Donate it to the amazing staff

-Created a mini book "Así soy yo" where we drew our self-portraits and practiced the phrases:

  • Me gusta ________. (color) 

Math: 
-Practiced counting from 0-20
-Represented the number of the day in different ways
-Played number BINGO!
-Played "Pañuelito" outside and practiced our numbers 1-10.

English: 
-Learned about the letters P, D, and T. 
-Practiced printing the letters on our sky line, bird line, grass line, and dirt lines. (We discovered which letters enjoy playing in the dirt line, and which prefer to stay above the grass line.)

Science:
-Learned about the primary colors. 

Social studies: 
-We are finishing up our "Bag About me" presentations (We have really enjoyed these!).
-Started our "My Community" posters. 

P.E and Wellness:
-We learned about Terry Fox and the impact he has on Canadians. We also began to practice our Terry Fox run.
