Weekly Learning Journey: November 14-18th

 Hola families below is our weekly update: 

Spanish:
-We've been practicing describing what we see in the fall using color, size and quantity.

Math: 
-Skip counting by 2s to 20, 5s and 10s to 100. 
-We have started "Esti- Mysteries". Students make an estimation on how many objects are in a jar. We narrow down our estimations as we receive clues.  
-We conducted a survey and created a graph based on our favorite colors.
Ask me: What are the Esti-Mysteries? 

English:
-Letters and sounds: i, x, y, e, e
-We reviewed sight words.
-Below are a few ideas on how your child can practice the sight words at home.

Ask your child about Sound Kreations and the new dance moves that they are learning!

Our virtual book fair starts today and can be accessed through this link.  Students will have an in-person opportunity to purchase books as well either during the day on November 22, 23, 24 or in the evening from 5-8 on November 24.

 

A reminder that conferences are being held next week on November 24 & 25.  Please see the separate email that was sent for information on how to book.

 

As a reminder around traffic safety, there is no parking or entering the school parking lot at any time. Please also be respectful and mindful of the parking, no stopping and Hug & Go zones around the school.   The Hug & Go Zone is meant for a vehicle to be there for under a minute.  Your child should be able to exit the vehicle independently and have their backpack with them in order to use this area.  The Hug & Go Zone is not meant as a waiting zone for families to pick up their child after school by remaining in their vehicle.    We continue to receive complaints from our neighbors regarding families who park in front of their garage is blocking access as well as reports of near misses. Safety over convenience it is not just a phrase. It needs to be a mindset and continued action. The Calgary Parking Authority as well as the Calgary Police Service will be coming out for education and enforcement. Dalhousie School has no ability or authority to have any in fractions and accompanying fines waived.  Thank you for collectively being conscious about traffic safety for our students, your children and our families, you

Nov 7 - 10 Weekly Learning Journey

Hola families! Here is our weekly learning journey.

Spanish:
-We started working with our Mochilas for oral Spanish. 
-We've been practicing describing what we see in the fall using color, size and quantity.
Ask me: What do you do with the "mochilas" (backpacks) every morning? 

Math: 
-Skip counting by 2s to 20, 5s and 10s to 100. 
-Represented the number of the day in different ways.
-We conducted a class survey about preferred seasons and animals.

English:
-Letters and sounds: j, w, h, wh, i 
-Sight words: not, all, were, we, when
-We are using the sight words to write sentences.
-We are practicing using our letter sound knowledge to write sentences.
-We are practicing where to include capital letters, lowercase letters, spaces and periods in our sentences.

Social studies:
-We started our "About my School posters"
-We will continue to research about Dalhousie School.
Ask me: What are some ways children around the world get to school?

Art:
-We created a field of poppies with a gradient blue sky. 

Indoor recess creations:

Note:
-We will be starting the Sound Kreations Dance program on Monday. Our students will be participating in a program called CubaNYC where a Spanish speaking instructor will focus on teaching the students hip hop and Latin street dance moves. Please return the signed form before Monday. (You can also scan a signed copy of it as well if you weren't able to return it this week)

-Parent conferences will be held on November 24th and 25th. Be sure to book a time slot by Nov 17th.

-The Veterans Food Drive will be open until the end of the week.

-Dalhousie will be hosting a Scholastic book fair with a virtual and in-person option.  The virtual fair will be active from November 18  – November 28, 2022 inclusive. Please check out the virtual link to preview and explore the digital flyer!  Students will also be able to purchase books and other items (posters/stationary etc.) in school. We will be doing a preview for each class and then the following week students will be allowed to purchase items using cash. Previews will be held November 15, 16, 17, and purchasing will occur November 22, 23, 24.   Additionally, the book fair will be open for all families on November 24 from 5pm to 8pm to coincide with conferences.  You do not need to have a conference that evening to visit the book fair.

 Hola 

We did calendario in the morning, then we worked on a librito (Yo veo una bellota) . In math we created a calabaza with patterns. In English we read a book called the cool bean. At the end of the day we did our class jobs. Then we wrote our class blog together.
